THE STORY

Tanzania is located on the eastern coast of Africa with the Indian ocean to its right and virtually engulfing Rwanda and Burundi to its left. Tanzania has been growing coffee since the 16th Century but it was only allowed to be grown by the Haya tribe in the northwest of the country. Originally the Haya tribe didn't actually drink the coffee but instead boiled it and created a tea-like drink infused with herbs and spices.

The Tanzania wilderness is such a diverse country with rich volcanic soil surrounding many volcanos (inclluding the tallest on earth, Mt Kilamanjaro). The Ruvuma region in the southeast corner of the country is most famous for its Arabica coffee production and this particular farm is close to Lake Malawi, the fourth largest (in volume) freshwater lake in the world.

The access and availabilty to such large volumes of water means after the coffee has been selectively handpicked, it can undergo the washing process immediately. The coffee collective looks after 200 farmers of which 25% are women who receive equal money for their harvests. Beyond advocating for women in coffee, the collective support regular tree planting to combat soil degradation and an overall emphasis on sustainability and welfare among farmers and the environment.

Not my cup of tea so to speak

3 stars only because these beans were not my flavour.

We could both taste honey and caramel tones in the coffee and thought it was sensational. Can't wait until it's back in stock to buy some more.

I loved how this coffee tastes! It brews nicely in my DeLonghi and is a satisfying brew especially for that first coffee of the day.

Great full bodied coffee, absolutely perfect and extraction brings out a wonderfully complex set of flavours that I wholeheartedly enjoyed from start to finish. Keep doing what your doing :)

The coffee was amazing

We loved this coffee. I was also sent a sample of the Brazilian, which we liked even better. We are extremely happy with every type we've tried. We've now tried Brazilian, Baroque, Carmel, and Tall Dark. They're all absolutely delicious. We drink our coffee with cream so it can be hard to tell a huge difference between them, but there are subtle taste notes that come through. Happy Customers!

I enjoy this coffee as espresso, but mainly as my go-to morning coffee at work using my trusty French press. The warm berry chocolate tones and the luscious mouth feel are a welcome break from the morning.

couldn't be happier!

The logistics is great, on time delivery and free shipping at a reasonable price point. However, the aroma wasn't as great as two other online roasters I've tried and that was the only disappointment. I want to disclose I am a french pressing, cold brewing drinker so by the time I'm done, I can't tell the difference in flavours.

Very good coffee

Beautiful coffee. It is lovely as a long black but have also recently taken to having it as a flat white with Bonsoy - totally delicious this way too! Thanks CBD for maintaining such good quality with your coffees.

Gorgeous, rich taste

Very rich and dark taste, even though it says it's mostly good in blacks, I quite enjoy it in a flat white, the coffee's taste still comes through strong and nice.

Consistent quality from this blend. Caramel and chocolate with subtle cherry flavours. Great as a ristretto or with Bonsoy. I will definitely order again.

The coffee was amazing

A bit darker than I expected reading the tasting notes, certainly the (darker) cocoa flavours came out when brewed in a siphon. To my mind, a very South American style coffee, great for black coffees if you like a bit of a punch.

Definitely a coffee suited to black coffee drinkers. I enjoy it in a shorter black style due to its rich creamy taste. I would suggest if you are a milk coffee drinker then the flavour of this coffee will not be as distinct.
